AT&T tries to reignite DirecTV Now growth with Best Buy promotion | FierceCable

FierceCable is reporting: “With subscriber growth of its virtual pay-TV platform, DirecTV Now, flatlining in the first quarter, AT&T continues to try to goose the platform with promotions.”  FierceCable had previously reported that DirectTV Now’s exceptional Q4 response to it’s OTT service offering had fallen flat in Q1.  AT&T (conspicuously) did not break out the numbers for new OTT subscribers in Q1 and stated they pulled back promotions to allow the platform to “mature”. The service quickly experienced some growing pains as new subscribers complained about the performance and stability of the service.  DirectTV seems to be getting on top of their issues and is looking to recapture some of the 2016 Q4 growth “magic” by partnering with Best Buy.  This special offer is for any purchase an eligible Roku, Google Chromecast, Amazon Fire TV or Apple TV OTT streaming device.  The promotion provides one month of free DirecTV Now service.  Offer expires August 25th, 2017 and applies to their “Live a Little” $35 base Tier package.  Get the whole story here:
